SPRINGBROOK AND BEYOND
by John Bell
The glorious profusion of a tangled rainforest has been an obsession of John Bell’s for a number of years. The South East Queensland hinterland is home to some of the richest forests in Australia, and it is within these environments that he finds both inspiration and contemplation. For this exhibition, Bell has centred his efforts on various vistas in the Springbrook mountain region, a place that has been especially rewarding to him. These works represent an homage to a landscape that seems largely untouched by human interference—a place he continues to return to for both inspiration and reflection.
This exhibition presents the work of Brisbane-based artist John Bell, whose artistic journey has been deeply shaped by the landscapes of South East Queensland. Educated in fine arts at Prahran College, Melbourne in the 1970s, Bell moved to Brisbane in 1980, where he immersed himself in the local art community, participating in various art groups such as the Woogaroo Art Group and Half Dozen Group. Over the years, he has contributed to numerous exhibitions, both solo and mixed.
In this collection, Bell focuses on the untamed vistas of the Springbrook mountain region, capturing the unique beauty of the South East Queensland hinterland. Through figurative, landscape, and abstract paintings, this exhibition offers a glimpse into a place that has continually inspired him. These works are a tribute to the vibrant and largely untouched rainforests of the region, evoking themes of solitude, reflection, and a profound connection to nature.
